Round Britain Power Boats to return to Earls Court

Round Britain Powerboat Display

Following the launch of the 2008 Round Britain Power Boat Race at Earls Court in December last year, Lord Beaverbrook, custodian of the famous Beaverbrook Trophy, will become the patron of an impressive display of power boats which will be designed and opened by Steve Curtis, 8 times World Class 1 Champion.

Lord Beaverbrook's classic powerboat 'Humdrum' will be on display along with stars of the 2008 Round Britain ‘Powerboat Race including Team 747 (a classic Fairey Spearfish which finished 2nd in the Historic Class) andTeam Scorpion Dubois (raced by the all girl team of Miranda Knowles and Sarah Fraser who finished 12th overall). Drew Langdon’s ‘Silverline Original Style’ will also make a welcome return to the show.

After seeing the boats arrive back in Portsmouth in glorious sunshine, James Brooke said, “There are many stories of teamwork, endurance and adventure to be told here. I’m proud we were able to launch the race at Earls Court in December 2007, and to see the competitors arrive in Portsmouth was a real credit to race organiser, Mike Lloyd. Without his vision and determination, none of this would have happened. One competitor that stands out for me particularly is Dag Pike. At 75 years of age, Dag navigated the overall winner and proved to everyone that this is a sport for any age. He is an inspiration, and clearly a great navigator. The all girl team of Miranda Knowles and Sarah Fraser racing their Scorpion Sting ‘Team Scorpion Dubois’ also performed incredibly. They finished 12th overall, and their boat will be on display at Earls Court in November.' This race will live on at Earls Court in November, and the 2008 competitors will be able to celebrate their achievements while inspiring the next generation of racers.”
